This pair of hands that we can see in the image belong to someone who suffered from gout, and here we can see its effects. It was the great scientist Dr. Thomas Dent Mütter who preserved them, the same man who years later would suffer the same consequences for suffering from the disease. In addition to this pair of hands, the Dr. had a variety of collection anatomical and pathological specimens, which he used to study and learn more about the pathologies that affect human beings. Many of them are currently in the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia.
