Laverne Cox is a lady of many firsts. The transgender actress has broken enough records to make her a household name and an icon for the LGBTQ community. Moreover, her acting skills are on par with the best, which is why she’s gotten several award nominations and over the years.
Laverne became the first transgender performer to play a recurring trans-character role on TV. Her portrayal of Sophia Burset in the hit series Orange Is The New Black got her primetime Emmy nomination. Yet, it wasn’t until 2015 that Laverne finally got an Emmy Award win; it was a Daytime Emmy for Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.
