Despite the changing landscape and perspective of the world, the LGBTQ community is still under extreme duress. Many public members of this community are still living in secret, afraid to come out in fear of a backlash at the hands of family and friends.

But trust celebrities to come in and save the day with their high profiles and willingness to share their orientation. That’s right, if you didn’t already know, there are tons of gay and bis*xual celebrities, and many of them have come out to make it easier for the regular person to do the same. From Don Lemon to Zachary Quinto, here are some inspirational gay celebrities.

Angelina Jolie & Jenny Shimizu

While Angelina is renowned as a feminine symbol, her love life is a peculiar one at best. Take, for example, her first boyfriend, who she had at the age of 14, dated for two years, and who actually lived with her. She was thankful for that, though, especially since it allowed her to pursue the relationship safely.

Fast forward to 1996 and, she was set to marry Hackers co-star Johnny Lee Miller. But right before then, she was in a relationship with model Jenny Shimizu. She says she would’ve married Shimizu were it not for her engagement to Miller, and it’s rumored that their affair went on for several years.
