While he isn’t the first gay WWE superstar ever, he is the first to come out while still signed to the company as an active participant. Orlando Jordan came out as bis*xual upon leaving the company and the legendary Pat Patterson, who only publicly came out after retirement.
While Young was admittedly scared about coming out, he was ultimately embraced by both WWE management and his peers following his announcement. He is still dating the man he was with when he came out, Niccolo Villa, but is no longer signed to WWE. Young is currently with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
