Speculative films like “Jaws,” “Backcountry,” and “Anaconda” have man-versus-animal plots that are either thrilling or utterly terrifying to watch. But renowned meteorologist Jennifer Ketchmark didn’t have anything as big as a snake, alligator, or tiger to contend with. No, her nemesis on this particular day was a hornet.
The insect first appeared in front of the camera lens during Ketchmark’s report. She was so frightened to see the magnified image that she ran off the stage shrieking. After the initial fright, she later returned to finish her report. But the image of her running off was already embedded in our collective minds.
