Unfortunately, they never got in contact with authorities to give a testament about the circumstances they found the keys and the vehicle. Even when the police sent out a news release searching for them, they didn’t turn up.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that the message didn’t reach them. The two hikers might have been visitors from out of town. We’re also not sure whether Dhawan’s story got national coverage. Thus, her case remains open as of September 2020, and the Peel Police phone lines are still open to tips as well.
