Mustering courage, Emily threw her arms around the wolf, a risky move that paid off. The large canine obliged and leaned into the embrace, an unspoken thank-you for their life-or-death escapade. Spinning around, she locked eyes with the vet. “Okay, spill. What are they?” she demanded.
With a somber face, the vet confessed, “I shouldn’t have called you back from the forest. I let fear guide me.” His eyes shifted toward the slumbering mystery animals. “Honestly, they’re species unknown to me. All I can say is—whatever they are—you two just saved something incredibly rare.”
