Remember when we spoke about gym buddies? This is that fine line between being held accountable and participating in friendly competition. At first glance, you’d think that the guy in the yellow shirt is spotting for the one benching. Then you notice that he’s not holding steady but pushing down.
What he is doing above is actually a variation on the bench press. There are no weights on the bar, and instead, the “spotting buddy” is providing the weight resistance by pushing down while the guy pressing tries desperately to push back. So yeah, no need to worry; he’s not trying to kill that man.
