The Story Took On A Life Of Its Own
Interestingly, this debunking didn’t stop the story of Flight 914 from circulating. The tale seemed to have developed a life of its own. According to AFP, a Facebook post about a missing plane that reappeared after 37 years has been shared by Indian and Kenyan users over 75K times as of March 2021.
It’s worth noting, though, that Snopes, a fact-checking website, had already debunked the story in 2019. Dan Evon, a member of the site’s editorial staff, said that the tale was a fixture of UFO blogs. He also pointed how Flight 914’s fate resembled an episode of The Twilight Zone called The Odyssey Of Flight 33.
