Ever Wondered How Life Was Back in the Day? These Vintage Images Show How Drastically the World Has Changed
Life On The Edge
Would you believe that this fairytale-like structure is a real place in San Francisco? It was named the Cliff House because, well, it sits on a cliff and gives off the illusion that it might fall at any time. It is now called the Lands End and is poised to reopen as a restaurant in 2022.
According to NPS, the structure was built in 1863 as a resort for the affluent. The first Cliff House wasn’t this big, but millionaire Adolph Sutro erected an eight-story mansion in its stead after a fire broke. The new structure was grand enough to be mistaken for a castle and included an observation tower.
