Ever Wondered How Life Was Back in the Day? These Vintage Images Show How Drastically the World Has Changed

Pirates of Pamir?

This beautiful ship seemed to have come straight from a movie because of how massive and unrealistic it looks. Dubbed Pamir, this four-masted watercraft was said to be the last commercial sailing vessel of its kind headed to Cape Horn. It was initially created for German company F. Laeisz but was later sold to other companies.

By the ’50s, Pamir was outmoded and outperformed by other boats, and coupled with the expensive maintenance cost; it became difficult to sustain the watercraft. In 1957, it got caught in Hurricane Carrie and sank, killing many of its passengers.
