But every trial has to come to an end. Finally, on July 22, 2013, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to her first son, Prince George Alexander Louis. They named the baby after Queen Elizabeth’s father and grandfather, and the nation welcomed him with a country-wide celebration.
There were gun salutes in the Tower of London and Green Park. Even the bells of Westminster Abbey rang loudly for three hours to usher in the new royal. And as the new parents stepped out of the hospital, they showed off their bundle of joy in a photocall outside St. Mary’s Hospital before heading home.
