There’s more than one record in the long, successful career of the American singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman. However, it’s impossible to deny that her debut album “Tracy Chapman” is still the work most people know her from. In 2021, many years after its release, the iconic album inspired an NPR article written by Francesca T. Roysters, who said Chapman’s debut was “the music that I needed at a time when I felt pressure to know everything.”
Still influential, that timeless 1988 Elektra Records album makes for a must-listen record, especially if you’re into folk music. The single “Fast Car” is particularly charming.
