Born in the ’30s, Sir Thomas Hicks, known by his professional name Tommy Steele, rose to fame as a teenager. He is widely regarded as the first teen idol and star to ever come from Britain after being discovered at a coffee bar in London.
A talented entertainer, he excelled in the music industry as well as the acting industry and has enjoyed a career of over seven decades. Back in the ’50s, he skyrocketed to fame and immortalized his unique journey in the 1957 movie “The Tommy Steele Story,” the soundtrack of which became the first British album to chart at No. 1 in the UK.
