Only a few are unfamiliar with Shelly Long’s work. Before rising to fame, she studied drama at Northwestern University, where she got her first job as a meal plan checker. The member of the Second City Troupe left university to try a hand at modeling and acting in Chicago. She co-hosted, wrote, and produced “Sorting It Out,” a popular magazine program in the state for three years.
Long achieved worldwide popularity on the sitcom “Cheers,” playing Diane Chambers. The role earned her a Primetime Emmy Award in 1983 and two Golden Globes. In 2019, she began appearing in “Modern Family,” an ABC comedy series. She continues to work in TV and was on “The Cleaner,” released in 2021
