Joe Mauer
Joe Mauer excelled at Cretin-Derham Hall in Minnesota, playing baseball, football, and basketball. He was the number one overall pick in the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft and played with the Minnesota Twins for 15 years before retiring in 2018. Mauer’s defensive prowess won him three Gold Gloves during his career. He also excelled as a hitter and was named American League MVP in 2009.
In 2020, the Minnesota Twins honored Mauer by inducting him into the team’s Hall of Fame. Aside from Ivan Rodriguez in 1999, he is the first catcher in Major League Baseball history to earn the American League’s Most Valuable Player award.
