EastEnders started airing in 1985. Nick Berry joined EastEnders in 1985. Yet Nicky Berry was not in the very first episode of the soap. That’s because the character was brought in to play out the adult storyline of another character named Mark Fowler, whose actor left the show prematurely for personal reasons.
Berry ended up playing the character for five years—impressive considering the character didn’t exist prominently in the initial show planning. Besides his acting gigs, during his initial stint on the show, he also released a music single called Every Loser Wins, which reached number one on the UK charts.
