Redmayne’s portrayal of scientist Stephen Hawking was so convincing, that Hawking himself thought that he was watching himself on the screen at times. Eddie pursued the role as soon as he found out the movie adaptation from the book Travelling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen, was going to take place.
Eddie had to work on how to portray Hawking, who suffered from motor neuron disease and contract his muscles in specific ways to be able to convincingly demonstrate Hawking’s condition on the screen. He met with Hawking himself in preparation for his role and was humbled by the Academy Award which he earned for his spectacular acting.
