Daniel Day-Lewis is a method actor, which means that for the time he’s interpreting his characters he completely immerses himself in the role he’s portraying. Daniel did this for the movie Lincoln, and more than the hairstyle, beard or prosthetics, he stayed in character for three months!
Steven Spielberg, the director of Lincoln, had to address him as Mr. President, just like everyone else on set. The strategy worked and Lewis’ portrayal was masterful and earned him an Academy Award, showing that his dedication had been completely worth it. This was the third Oscar for Day-Lewis.
