Sandra Bullock almost passed on playing the lead role in the award-winning 2009 film The Blind Side. She changed her mind after director John Lee Hancock took her to Memphis to meet Leigh Anne Tuohy, the movie’s subject. Tuohy wasn’t about to let Hancock and Bullock run with their creative liberty and she gave her input during filming.
The result was a moving tale about a Southern family who took in a homeless boy who ended up being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. The film earned big money at the box office, raking in $300 million. Bullock won the Best Actress award at the Oscars and the Golden Globe Awards.
