A Photographer Stepped Into a Neglected Home to Show Us a Unique Piece of American History

The Sound of Music

Like most proper 1800s residences, the Marion Carll Farmhouse featured a piano room. Sansivero snapped this beautiful musical instrument, produced by a New York City company called Calenberg & Vaupel. The company started making instruments in 1864, and one of their pianos found its way into Marion Carll’s home.

This beautiful musical instrument is a perfect example of the outstanding craftwork that we still associate with 1800s manufacturers. Today, Calenberg & Vaupel still exists, now as an antique piano shop. They also offer restoration services via their website, which could come in handy for this particular piano.
