Rachel and Aaron got a lot of support from close friends, family, and community members. But they know that their unique family will always raise some eyebrows in the South. In an interview with the Washington Post, published after the Halberts made it to the news, Aaron mentioned that “there will always be the older white woman in Walmart.”
Sadly, there are still many men and women out there who don’t support or understand Rachel and Aaron’s decision, especially in the South. But most reactions have been great, and most people find the Halberts’ mixed-race family to be an inspiration.
